SQLBits Event

Last Saturday, I gave a talk on SQL Server Reporting Services at SQLBits. This event took place at Microsoft in Reading and the attendance was quite amazing at around 320 people. The day itself was split into 4 tracks and my talk took place in Chicago 2, one of the larger theatre style rooms. For those interested, my slides can be downloaded here.

Although I missed most of the morning sessions, I was able to attend some of the talks in the afternoon. Dave McMahon’s Top 10 SQL Keywords talk was very interesting as well as highly amusing! Dave is repeating this talk next week at the VBUG conference and I highly recommend going along. More details regarding the conference can be found here:

The final session that I attended was Martin Cairney’s Security talk. Martin covered most aspects of SQL security and a useful piece of information that I learnt regarded the db_datareader role. The scope of this role includes the master database so adding users to this role could grant them more permissions than anticipated.

Overall, this was an excellent event and the next big community event to put in your diary is DDD6. More details can be found here: http://www.developerday.co.uk/ddd/default.asp
