Reporting Services talk at SQL Server User Group

At the SQL Sever user group in Reading this week, I gave a presentation on Reporting Services. I met a great bunch of attendees and there were some very interesting questions raised at the session.

The first one was a question on how you would go about deploying a report onto (for example) 100 Report Servers.

Having looked into this a little, Reporting Services includes a utility called RS.Exe which can be used to help automate tasks. The following site on Codeplex contains sample script using RS.exe that performs the deployment of RDL Report files.!Script%20Samples%20%28Reporting%20Services%29

The second question was whether or not there was any mechanism for consistently applying styles against reports in a similar way in which CSS can be used to apply styles to HTML.

A member of the audience suggested an innovative approach of saving the styles in a database and using expressions to retrieve them. More details can be found on the Simple Talk site here:

For anyone interested, my slides for the presentation can be found here.
