At the SQL Sever user group in Reading this week, I gave a presentation on Reporting Services. I met a great bunch of attendees and there were some very interesting questions raised at the session.
The first one was a question on how you would go about deploying a report onto (for example) 100 Report Servers.
Having looked into this a little, Reporting Services includes a utility called RS.Exe which can be used to help automate tasks. The following site on Codeplex contains sample script using RS.exe that performs the deployment of RDL Report files.
The second question was whether or not there was any mechanism for consistently applying styles against reports in a similar way in which CSS can be used to apply styles to HTML.
A member of the audience suggested an innovative approach of saving the styles in a database and using expressions to retrieve them. More details can be found on the Simple Talk site here:
